Woe that grows into madness, and the influence of evil can crush the sanest mind and make people listen to their dark desires.
Louis Creed and his family move from Chicago to Maine. Their new neighbor, Jud Crandall, warns Louis of the dangers of the road near the house: trucks are constantly being carried on the road, often killing the local pets. One day, Jud decides to show Creed where the mysterious path behind their house leads and takes the family to the cemetery of pets. This place makes a strong impression on Ellie, daughter of Lewis. The girl thinks about death for the first time, she begins to worry about her favorite cat Church. Soon her fears become a reality – the pet is hit by a truck. Judd and Lewis go to bury the cat, but an old man takes Creed further along the path, in the Mi’kmaq cemetery. In the morning Church returns home, but becomes a completely different creature.
