Doctor Montague researches the paranormal phenomena. He decides to rent a mysterious house Hill House, which is famous for its bad history. For the experiment, the doctor invites several people who have already encountered the supernatural: the shy Elinor Vance, the bright girl Theodora and the heir to the house Luke Sanderson. They will live for some time under one roof. Soon, the heroes begin to hear strange sounds and notice unusual inscriptions on the walls. The house is full of ghosts that make it clear to the guests that they are not welcome here.
