Lullaby

Lullaby

Year of publication: 2002

What will happen to people if the mystical power is real? Power over it will make a man a demigod, but will he be able to control this power?

Reporter Carl Straithor takes on the investigation of sudden infant death syndrome and finds an unusual reason: babies are put to sleep by a special African lullaby. It can be found in the collection “Poems and funny things from all over the world”. The author, who introduced the lullaby into the collection, did not know the eerie history of this song: it was sung to children when hungry times began for the tribe, and to incurably ill and wounded to stop their torment.

The writers choose an incredible variety of techniques to arouse feelings of fear. For example, Stephen King likes to address the dark sides of a person’s personality and show the abyss that lives in everyone. Reading Howard Lovecraft, one can feel the growing tension and madness. It is as if Edgar Poe takes you through the gray mist to the Gothic and dark world of his works. Which of the ways to tickle your nerves is best for you? The books on my list will delight fantasy owners and amateurs to think about what they’ve read.
