A heavy atmosphere presses on the consciousness, gradually pushes to the alarm, which turns into fear. It envelops and prevents you from escaping from your soft but firm embrace.

The narrator comes to the estate of his old friend Roderick Asher and notices a huge crack in the wall of the house. Asher meets the guest and tells him about his unusual illness: he cannot stand the sunlight and loud sounds. In addition, the owner of the estate thinks that there is some force in the house, a special atmosphere that affects his family. His sister, Lady Madeline, lives with Usher; she is also sick. It is as if she has no feelings and emotions, the body sometimes becomes very cold and her breath is completely lost.

One day Asher comes to his guest and asks him to help move the body of his unexpectedly deceased sister to the dungeon and put it in the coffin. A week later, a strange and deaf knock begins to sound in the house.
